About Us
About Our Society
We are working towards building a continuous network of trails from one end of Galiano Island to the other. In doing so, we seek to complement the beauty of the Parks Commission by building and managing trails across private property and collaborating closely with Galiano Island Parks and Recreation Commission (of the Capital Regional District), the Galiano Club and the Galiano Conservancy.
The Trails Society has adopted a flexible approach pioneered by the Kootenay Columbia Trail Society offering limited, renewable terms without affecting property title, and by providing liability insurance coverage. This makes it easy for private owners to welcome trails across their land. A draft agreement is available for those interested in this process. A commercial company provides insurance for this as well.
We welcome everyone interested in developing, improving, using, and promoting trails on Galiano Island.
We gratefully acknowledge the opportunity to live, work and play on the shared, unceded and traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Penelekut, Lyackson and Cowichan First Nations and the Sencoten and Hul’qumi’num speaking Nations.
